Alabaster - Part 2: Searching For More Clues

In the previous part, you ended up in a gap on the beach. The beach is where you will come back a few times, so it is a good idea to remember this place.

Jump over the rocks to get out of the gap. It's easiest on the right side. Walk over the beach to the right, in the direction of the buildings you can see in the cliff. A little later, you will see the merchant's stores on your right. Walk between the two large tusklike horns into an area with wooden poles sticking in the ground. Circle around the poles to see the D'ni number 2 on a rock in the middle of the poles.

Insect Clues

When facing the rock with a D'ni number, turn around and you should see a passage between the rocks ahead of you. Walk into the passage, go past the first entrance with two lanterns on the sides. It leads to a closed gate. Further down the path is a fork in the path. Take the passage to the left. At the end of the passage are two tunnels. Take the tunnel to the right, follow it until you reach a stairs going up. Walk up the stairs and follow the corridor until the end. The doors cannot be opened from here. You can look through the windows. Outside, on the side of the other tunnel entrance, is the symbol of an insect. Nothing elso to do here, so return to the tunnel entrance. Notice however, that the insect symbol is visible through all the windows here.

When you are back outside, ignore the tunnel with the dragonfly for now and walk back to the fork that you came from. When you're at the fork, follow the path to the left. At the end of the passage, turn left past the lantern on your right. The next lantern is closeby a wooden stairs. Walk up the stairs leading to a small rocky garden area. On the left side of this area is a large ball or something. Walk close to it to see it turn and reveal the D'ni number 8. Press the button on the wall and a green liquid will fill up some of the lower parts of the garden. At this point however, it is unclear which animal this is.

Walk back, down the stairs and continue the path until you reach a narrow passage on your left. Go through the narrow passage and into the tunnel behind it. At the end of the tunnel you can see the starting point in the distance. To your right is a door opening. Go through the door and follow the path until you reach a fork. Take the passage to your right. At the end is an ant-symbol on the wall. Nothing elso to do here, so walk back to the fork and take the left passage back to where you came from. The other passage leads to the community room. Follow the path back until you're back outside. You are now close to the starting point.

Raised Railings

Walk towards the stairs with the Alabaster sign. Do not climb the stairs but turn to the right and walk to the corner. Ignore the stairs leading to animal plaza and walk into the corner past the large cactus plants. You should see a narrow passage in the corner. Follow the passage until you reach a wooden door, push the button next to the door and it opens. Walk through the door and turn right. Walk to the next door, push the button and again, the door opens. Walk through the door and follow the path. Near the end, you should see two horns to your right on a thick brown base. Between the horns is a stairs leading up.

Take the stairs to the right
Take the stairs to the right

Walk up the stairs and follow the path until you reach a bridge. Cross the bridge and turn right. Follow the path until you reach another stairs. The stairs are blocked by pieces of a broken pillar, but you can jump over them. Turn left and walk up the stairs. Follow the path to the right until you reach the top.

A platform with a scope
A platform with a scope

At the top, you should see the path where you came from, a stairs going down and a stairs leading to a platform with a scope or viewer between two railings. Walk up the stairs leading to the scope first. This area looks out over some sort of plaza with red sand in the middle and a raised platform. Look through the scope. You'll see the D'ni number 9. Press Escape to stop looking through the scope. It looks like this could be another animal clue, but where's the animal shape? The railing to the left of the scope has red geometric shapes in the middle. These shapes are actually buttons you can push. So, in what order will these buttons have to be pushed?

The railing puzzle
The railing puzzle

Walk down the stairs to get off the platform. Turn left and walk down the stairs leading to the plaza with the red sand. In the middle is a raised platform but you cannot reach it as the rope fence will not allow it. You can see the railings all around the plaza. There are two things to note about the railings: 1) Some of the railings are raised, and 2) In the middle of each railing is a different geometric shape. If these railings were raised for a decorative purpose, they would have a pattern to it, like: one raised, three not raised, one raised and again three not raised. But such a pattern is not present. What if the raised railing-pieces indicate which geometric shape to push on the platform with the scope? The raised railing pieces have the following geometric shapes in them (from left to right): circle, triangle, triangle, square, diamond (a tilted square), diamond, square, triangle, star and a diamond. Walk up the stairs and return to the platform with the scope. Press the red buttons on the railing in the order that you just found and watch the raised platform lower into the red sand.

Meteorite

Head back down to the fork with the horns and turn right. Walk towards the catapult. A little further, to the right is an entrance to a room with two horns on the sides. Enter this room and look around. You should see a crack in the wall. Through the crack you can see another journey cloth but you cannot reach it from here. Exit the room and walk behind the meteorite, be careful not to fall into one of the gaps in the ground. Behind the meteorite, you'll find a button on a slice of the strangely colored material standing against the rock wall. The button won't work until you've found all seven cloths.

Behind the meteorite
Behind the meteorite

Walk into the passage to the left of the button. Near the end of the path you will see a drawing on the cliff wall of one of the animals. On the opposite side of the drawing is another drawing. Some have suggested that it represents the meteorite. Well, in my humble opinion, the yellow lights might be meteorites burning up in the atmosphere, but the brown spherical thing doesn't look like a meteorite to me. It looks more like a mechanical device or a space ship perhaps?

Meteorite or space ship?
Meteorite or space ship?

Continue following the path. At the very end of the path you see a cave entrance with bars. What is that sound? It sounds like snoring. If the inhabitants of the island managed to capture the monster that killed all the animals here when the D'ni were still alive, then that monster has been here for at least a few hundred years... How is that for longevity? To the right of the cave is a large D'ni number 12 painted on the cliff wall. It is another animal clue. Nothing else to do here, so head back to the starting point.

Village

When standing before the stairs with the Alabaster sign, walk towards the strangely colored pillars on your left. Nothing you can do with it, so continue walking towards the D'ni house in the cliff. Left from the D'ni house are a few simpler houses. Walk to the wooden beams you should see lying on the ground. From there, you should see a rope ladder. Climb the rope ladder. You are now in the village. You can enter the first house, but there's nothing of interest in there. So, if your back is towards the rope ladder, turn right and walk towards the next house. You cannot enter it, so turn left and you should see a ladder leading to an upper floor. Climb the ladder. At the upper platform, turn right and walk forward, towards the house on your left. Walk up the stairs and enter the house. Walk around the wall in the middle and you will reach the kitchen. In the floor is a hole with a ladder. Climb down the ladder. This room has one open door and one closed door. The closed door does not open, so walk through the open door into the next room. This place must have been the local weavery, by the looks of it. Hidden on the left side of the bookcase is a banner with a clue. You'll want a picture of that one. With this single clue, you won't need the other insect clues scattered around the Age.

The only clue that you need for the insect puzzle
The 'all-that-you-need' clue to the insect puzzle

Exit the room and climb the ladder back up. Leave the house and walk towards the third house. It is the one you're facing when you exit the weavery house. You can't enter the third house, but you can walk around it to the back of the house. At the back of the house is another stairs going to the right. Go down that stairs first. You are now on the balcony of the D'ni houses. There are two doors but they cannot be opened. Return to the round house and look what's behind it. Walk up the stairs, turn to the right and walk down the other stairs to the right. This area looks like a playground. On the ground you can see D'ni numbers in different colors. An arrow is pointing to the D'ni number 7. At the back is a rope mesh. The red rope shows the shape of one of the animals. This is the seventh animal clue.

The seventh animal clue
The seventh animal clue

These are all the clues you're going to find here, so leave the village. Go back around the house, walk down the ladder and climb down the rope ladder. Walk towards the wooden beams on the ground. In the distance, you should see another pile of wooden beams on the ground. Walk past it and go to the large cactusses in the farthest corner. Here, you should find a passage going up.

Around The Campfire

Go into the passage that's slowly going up. Follow the path until you reach a campfire site at the end. Around you are large rock formations that seem to be interconnected by bridges. If the path leading to the campfire is regarded six o'clock then there's one ladder going up at eleven o'clock and another one at two o'clock from the campfire. Take the one at eleven o'clock first. It's on the left back side of the rock that's straight ahead of you if you're still standing before the campfire, coming from the path at six o'clock.

Walk clockwise around the large rock straight ahead of you. At the back side is a ladder. Climb the ladder, turn right and follow the path ahead of you. It leads to another ladder. Climb that one too. When done, turn left and follow the path. Shortly before the end of the path is another ladder going up. Climb it and when on top, turn right. Follow the path spiralling up.

Eternal torch
Eternal torch

After crossing a few bridges, you will reach the end of this path: A torch, decorated with animal bones, on top of one of the higher mountain peaks. The torch does not offer anything itself. Behind it however, you'll find that a ladder is attached to one of the large horns sticking out of the side of the mountain peak. When you look down, you should also see the shape of a monkey where the three dead trees are. This is the eighth animal clue.

Step onto the horn with the ladder attached to it and climb down the ladder. You will reach a small platform with a closed gate. To the right of the gate is a lever to open the gate. Pull the lever and walk into the cave. Nothing you can do with any of the stuff here. The painting on the wall looks like it might be a clue, but as far as I know, it isn't.

Exit the cave and climb back up the ladder. Walk past the torch and follow the path back to the campfire. Once you've reached the campfire site, walk in the two o'clock direction. (Or, starting from the ladder you just came down from, walk clockwise around the rock formation you just came from and walk towards the next rock formation. Ignore the cave entrance that you should see on your right, you will get there at a later time.) On the back side of the next rock you should be able to find a ladder. In relation to the campfire, the ladder is actually at three o'clock.

Climb up the ladder. At the end of the ladder, turn left and follow the path. When you get to a bridge, turn left and cross the bridge. (The rest of the other path is a dead end.) At the other side of the bridge you can go left or right. Go right. (At the end of the path to the left is a cave with a bird's nest, but there's nothing you can do with it.) Cross the bridge to the right and follow the path until you reach a closed door.

A closed door

To the right of the door is a lever. Pull the lever to open the door. Enter the cave and climb the ladder that you find inside. At the end of the ladder, turn right and walk out of the cave. You are now on a ledge with large rusty railings on one side. There is a lever at the left end of this ledge. Pull it and turn around. If you look through one of the grates, you should see the third insect clue on one of the horns.

The third insect clue

Head back into the cave and climb down the ladder. The hatch next to the ladder is now open. Turn right and walk into the hole. The ladder going down is broken so you will fall down and (hopefully) land on a platform underneath the hatch. Look around a bit before moving. On another platform you should see the second journey cloth. Make a few jumps from platform to platform to reach the journey cloth. Touch the journey cloth, turn to the left and step off the platform. You will fall down into a cave closeby the campfire.

Exit the cave and walk back to the campfire. Walk back down the path for a while until you see three dead trees near the tail of the monkey in the distance. As soon as the path allows it, walk over the border towards the three dead trees.

Before you decide to jump down, look to the right, you should see a red square on the rock surface with an insect in it. That's the fourth insect clue.

A little more to the right you should also see a tunnel-entrance. Walk into the tunnel and follow it. At the end of the tunnel is an open area with animal bones arranged in the shape of a bird. It's another animal clue. Closeby is an eggshell with the D'ni number 6 on it.

The ninth animal clue
The ninth animal clue

Head back into the tunnel and go back to where the locust insect clue is. Walk down, off the edge and onto the red dirt that makes up the body of the monkey. Go to the tip of the monkey's tail. You can either walk over the red dirt or take a shortcut by jumping on the rocks at a few locations that allow you to do so. When you reach the tip of the tail, you will see a pole with a blue button. The blue button has the D'ni number 4 on it. So, for the animal puzzle, the monkey gets the number 4. Pressing the button will give the sound that the monkey used to make.

Walk back to the body of the monkey and from there to the outermost hind leg. At the end of the monkey's leg you should see the entrance to a tunnel. Enter the tunnel and follow it until you reach a wooden door. The button to open it is a few meters before the wooden door. Press the button to open the door and follow the tunnel to the end. Exit the tunnel, turn right and head to the beach with the fish clue.
