Elodea - Part 2: Caves & Water

In the previous part you ended up on a ledge by the second journey cloth. If you're still facing the journey cloth then turn around and look for the rock jutting out of the cliff wall. Do a running jump to reach it. Should you fall into the ocean, you can climb on the rocks here as it has a low slope. Follow the path along the cliff wall. The rowboat cannot be used, so walk past it until you reach an opening in the cliff wall. Enter the opening and continue walking through the small pool of water. To your right is another passageway leading to a cave with a pile of large rocks in the middle. On top of the rocks lies a book that cannot be clicked. Underneath the book lies a note with D'ni writing on it and another note with D'ni numbers on it. Nothing else to do here, so exit the cave and continue walking to the right. You end up on a flat rock plateau overlooking a green island. The island can be reached via a rock ridge forming a walkway to the island.

Walk to the island until you're halfway there. Turn around and look at the cliffs. You should see the wooden walkway sticking out of the cave where the stone face was located. A little to the left of the walkway you can see an opening in the cliff wall. That's the next destination. Swim over there. Once you're in the cave, turn left. You're now in a cave with the remains of what might have been a temple or something like it. When you swim to the rock jutting out of the water in the middle of the cave and climb it, you'll see a stairway. On top of the stairway you can see a journey cloth. But it cannot be reached from here as part of the stairway is collapsed.

Swim back to the area with the wooden walkway. On one side is a landing. Climb on land there and switch to 1st person view using F1 if you had not done so already. Now go back in the water and continue swimming in the opposite direction of where the temple was. You'll notice at some point that your avatar dissappears under water. No need to worry, continue swimming forward until you enter a submerged cave. In this cave you find two large fish swimming about. Turn left and look for a narrow passage leading upwards. Follow the passage until you reach a small island. From this island look back to where you came from. Turn a little to the right and start swimming again. You should see a ramp in the cliff wall where you can get back on land.

Swimming towards the ramp

I hit a little glitch here: when i took the previous picture, my avatar began sinking to the bottom of the sea. Once there, I could walk over the entire ocean floor. And I had no idea I could hold my breath for so long!

Anyway, when you've reached the ramp, follow the path upwards. When the path forks, take the left path leading back inside the caves. Walk down the stairs and look to the left. You can see the wooden walkway by the stone face. Continue walking down the stairs until you reach a walkway leading to the journey cloth. There are a few gaps in the path, so do a running jump to get past them. At the end of the path is the third journey cloth, so touch it.

Turn around and head back to the fork at the cliff. You can either walk back the way you came or jump in the water and swim back to the ramp. Once you're back at the fork, follow the path leading further upwards until you've reached a ladder going up. Climb the ladder all the way to the top. You are now at the highest point in this Age. To your right is a large wooden cross as seen in several European countries. To your left is a large bird's nest. Judging from the size of the eggs, it's probably a good thing the motherbird is not around.

As there is nothing to do here other than enjoying the view, let's head back. We ended up here because the backdoor of the mine prevented us from going back to the main mine entrance, so let's head back to the mine entrance. There seems to be no path other than the one we came from. Going back that way means that you have to climb all the way down again and then have to swim around half the main island. That's a long way around. A shortcut is also possible: Walk over the edge of the bird's nest and walk to the other side (the side farthest away from the wooden cross) and walk in the direction of the large plateau of grass.

At the end of the plateau are two benches on the right where you can rest from the long hike. On the left is a pile of dark rocks. Pass it on the left so you can continue further down. Follow the path with the low stone border. At the end is a ladder going down. When you've reached the end of the ladder you stand on a ledge overlooking the path that leads to the mine.

Jump off the ledge and continue the path leading to the mine. When you've reached the mine, take the path to the right until you see a little pond on your left. You can hear the frogs, you can even hear the occasional buzzing of insects. A variety of plants can be found in the pond, like members of the Typhaceae and Nymphaeaceae. But oddly, no Anatidae...

Continue following the path and take the path to the right at the second fork. Cross the bridge and walk towards a small settlement.

A small settlement

Just before entering the settlement, turn right and walk towards the water tower. The tower has a ladder on the right side but it is too high up to reach it. Walk towards the wooden beam on the right, near the wooden crates. A wheel is attached to the beam. Turn it and the ladder will lower. Turn right and walk around the crates. Now jump up the reel to reach the ladder. Climb up the ladder and do not bother about the wheel up there. It is for lowering the ladder. Turn right and walk the stairs until you find another wheel up there. Turn it and walk back down the stairs past where you climbed the ladder. An area inside the water tower has been revealed. Enter it and you'll find the fourth journey cloth, just around the corner.

Touch the cloth and head out of the tower. The wheel by the door will open the door in case it is closed again. Walk back to the ladder, turn the wheel and climb down the ladder. Walk to the settlement. There is nothing to do, but feel free to explore the buildings as some of the paintings and pictures in there are hints for later in the game.
